Tarnów County is one of the biggest in Lesser Poland Voivodeship – its area is 1.412 km2. It is inhabited by 197751 people (GUS data from 30 June 2022). There are 140 people per one square kilometer. There are 16 municipalities in Tarnów County: Ciężkowice, Gromnik, Lisia Góra, Pleśna, Radłów, Ryglice, Rzepiennik Strzyżewski, Skrzyszów, Szerzyny, Tarnów, Tuchów, Wierzchosławice, Wietrzychowice, Wojnicz, Zakliczyn, Żabno; including 7 towns: Ciężkowice, Ryglice, Radłów, Tuchów, Wojnicz, Zakliczyn and Żabno. Nine of the municipalities are rural communities, while 7 of them are urban-rural municipalities.
Tarnów County lies between two geographical lands: Pogórze Ciężkowicko-Rożnowskie and Kotlina Sandomierska. It is very diverse in terms of climate, soil conditions and is characterized by large diversity of fauna and flora. The height of the hills varies from 170 m a.s.l. in Pałuszyce (Wietrzychowice municipality) to 534 m a.s.l. on the Brzanka mountain in the municipality of Tuchów.
In the nothern part of Tarnów County there are plain areas with typical agricultural character, and in the southern part – heavily wavy and montainous areas. Three large rivers flow across this land: the Vistula, the Dunajec and the Biała River.
Mystery seekers, who are looking for beautiful views or places with centuries-old history, will find here a lot of interesting monuments and routes. Tarnów land is a region attractive to tourists because of its diverse landscape. Especially in the southern part of the County, where perfect conditions for walking or cycling can be found.
One of the many tourist and historical attractions distinguishing the Tarnów County in the Lesser Poland Region is the unique War Cementaries Trail from the First World War. Those interested in tradition and culture can visit the world’s only preserved estate of Ignacy Jan Paderewski in Kąśna Dolna, currently a museum of the great Pole, composer and stateman.
Others may be willing to explore the trail of charming, small towns, where houses with wooden arcades surround quiet squares. To this day, on Tarnów land a dozen of the wooden churches have also survived, creating a unique Path of Wooden Architecture – the most beautiful symbol of attachment to religion and tradition.
In our region, tourists will also find mysterious places, associated with many legends,such as the ,,Skamieniałe Miasteczko” in Ciężkowice. Tarnów County is hospitable and open for everyone visiting, which is why we would love to invite you to explore more beauties of this land.
